New Year’s visit to a shrine or temple

Join a bean-throwing event and bring in good fortune / February 3 marks Setsubun, the transition from winter to spring, when the Japanese drive away evil by tossing auspicious soybeans while chanting “Fuku wa uchi!” (In with good fortune!). On this day, many shrines and temples in Tokyo hold Setsubun festivals and bean-tossing events.
